THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Pay Reform Commission has recommended strong intervention in the appointment of government-paid aided schools and a change in the full powers of management. Teachers and staff of aided schools and colleges, who are paid from the government treasury, should be selected based on merit and transparency. The Kerala Recruitment Board for Private Schools and Colleges should be set up with the participation of managements. Interviews should be video recorded. Arrangements should be made for a retired High Court Judge Ombudsman to monitor the appointment. Vacancies should be published in newspapers and on websites. Legislation should be brought for this.

NSS General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair said that the NSS will take legal action against any attempt to interfere in aided school appointments as part of the Pay Reform Commission's recommendations. Various religious and community managements are concerned that the formation of a board for aided school and college appointments could lead to a managements losing power. He said that the NSS would oppose such action, which does not stand legally.
