THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: DGP Anil Kant on Monday launched a scathing attack on a group of 'sirs' in the state police who were calling out obscenities, assaulting and taking money from public in the name of inspection.
The DGP has directed to take immediate action if any video or audio of the indecent and outrageous behavior of the police is recorded and shared by the people on social media or in the news in newspapers or channels. The essence is to respond to those who cause shame to the entire police force-even if you are a victim or witnesses of violence.
As the government was embarrassed by the misconduct of the police, the Chief Minister called a meeting of top officials and started the rectification process but to no avail. To warn all those who misbehave towards the people, the police medal allotted to a SI who was involved in the cases was withdrawn. Eleven DySPs accused in criminal cases were demoted to inspectors. Still no results.
There was also constant criticism of the High Court against the outrageous behavior of the police. With this, the DGP came to the decision to stop the troublemakers and issued a circular last day. The conduct of the police will be monitored by the Special Branch in the respective districts and reported to the concerned Chief. Punishment measure will be immediate.
Section 86-C of the Police Act provides for the dismissal of those who show arrogance to the public, inflict bodily harm and ignore complaints.
Despite what Senkumar said
TP Senkumar, while he was the DGP, that a person should be addressed as sir / friend or madam / sister while inspecting vehicles. But eda, edi, and nee are still the popular usage.
Senkumar's instructions to exercise restraint, not to inflict bodily harm, not to take the vehicle into custody illegally and not to unnecessary waste time were also not followed.
He also suggested that the behavior should be exemplary in a way that would impress even the tourists. It was also forbidden to open the button of the shirt, not to put on the cap, and not to put the cap under the armpit.
