THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nothing will happen to the Congress no matter whoever quits the party, said opposition leader V D Satheesan. The party did not wane even after K Karunakaran left the party, he said.

Karunakaran left the Congress at one point. We were able to raise the Congress in Kerala without Karunakaran. No one is as great as Karunakaran. Even if I go tomorrow, nothing will happen to the Congress. When asked for an explanation, Anil Kumar gave an arrogant answer. Those who received more recognition than they deserved went to the AKG Centre. Recognition should not be given to those who don't deserve it anymore. This is a lesson, said Satheesan.

Many leaders left the Congress recently following the appointment of DCC chiefs. KPCC secretary and candidate of Nedumangad assembly constituency P S Prashanth left and soon K P Anil Kumar also did the same. The two then joined the CPM. Anil Kumar’s unexpected resignation was at a time when the leadership sighed a relief after the issue was brought under control. Anil Kumar left the party after showering harsh criticisms against KPCC chief K Sudhakaran. Even though they are not showing it, the Congress leadership is worried about this. The main fear of the leadership is whether this will backfire on their efforts to change the party on the whole. In the new situation, groups have started trying to tighten the pressure strategy.
