KOCHI: More serious allegations and complaints are coming up against antique dealer Monson Mavunkal who was arrested by the crime branch for allegedly swindling Rs 10 crore from several people. The accused, who was sent to judicial custody for three days, will be questioned by the Crime Branch on Wednesday under the supervision of top officials.
It has been alleged that Monson had run a prostitution racket and massage center using underage girls at his home in Kaloor. The probe team will also investigate whether the police officials had leaked the phones of the complainants and handed over the information to Monson.
Both the Customs and Forest Departments conducted raids at Monson's house in Kaloor yesterday. Customs issued notice to produce details of foreign vehicles. Tax evasion will be investigated.
The Forest Department inspected the house after learning that Monson possessed several valuables, including elephant tusk. The inspection will continue on Wednesday as well. Valuables including elephant tusk will be taken into custody. According to the Forest Department, the antiquities are completely fake.
Crime Branch SP MJ Sojan told Kerala Kaumudi that there was no need to collect evidence from the house in Kaloor. The registration of some of the vehicles is fake.
The crime branch has also recorded Monson's arrest in a case of fraud in the name of a 500-acre coffee plantation owned by the Madhya Pradesh government in Wayanad.
Customs dept behind Monson's cars
The Customs team, that reached Monson's home in Kaloor, inspected the cars and collected their registration numbers. Most of the cars were registered outside the state. There is a mystery surrounding the registration of some cars.
The Customs department will inquire whether there was any tax evasion or irregularities in the import of foreign cars.
It is believed that Monson had bought the cars from sellers of used foreign cars. Customs sources also said they were not conducting an investigation in connection with the antiquities.
