THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains continue to lash across the northern districts of the state. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast isolated winds of up to 40 kmph and thundershowers at Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts during the next three hours. . The cyclone along the Tamil Nadu coast has caused heavy rainfall in the state. The Met Office said the rains would continue till Wednesday.

Heavy rains continue in Thrissur and Kozhikode. In Thrissur district, widespread rains caused extensive damage. The bund of Thrikkur Makilakulam river broke due to heavy rain and flooded 5 houses in the area. Many houses were flooded as the Mattathur Vellikulam stream and Poovali stream overflowed. Families in the area were evacuated. Shops near Varantharappilly Kurudipalam were flooded.

Rains in Kozhikode caused floods in many parts of the city. In Chevayoor and parts of Vellayil, houses were flooded. Traffic was disrupted in many parts of the city due to heavy rains. . The shops in Mukkam were flooded. The floods are also severe in Choolur.

Heavy rains will continue in the state tomorrow. Yellow alert has been declared in six districts tomorrow. Yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad districts. There is a chance of isolated heavy rain with thunder. An orange alert was declared in Idukki on Monday. Yellow alert has be issued in Pathanamthitta and districts north of Palakkad.
