THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rains in the state till October 15. Orange alert was declared in six districts and yellow alert in seven districts on Tuesday.
The orange alert was issued in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. The yellow alert was issued in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. People in low-lying areas, riverbanks and landslide-prone areas that received extreme rainfall, should exercise caution.
The wind will blow at a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour. It is also advised that those in the area should not go fishing on those days. The IMD has forecast strong winds of 40 to 50 kmph in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal and the Andaman Sea on Tuesday and Wednesday.
