THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has warned of strong winds in Kerala till the 21st of this month. A public alert has also been issued for strong winds.

The instructions are as follows

Strong winds can cause trees to fall and twigs to break. Do not stand under trees when there is wind and rain.

Do not park vehicles near trees.

Dangerous twigs of trees in premises of house should be cut down. Inform the concerned local bodies if trees in dangerous condition are noticed in public places.

Properly reinforce or loosen unsecured billboards, electric posts, and flagpoles when there is no wind or rain as they may fall off. Do not stand or park vehicles under or near it when it is raining or windy.

Tools and other objects that may fall in the wind, such as a ladder leaning against a wall or other object, should be tied with rope.

The windows and doors of the houses should be closed as soon as the wind starts blowing. Do not stand near windows and doors. Also avoid standing on the terrace of the house.

Power lines and posts are more likely to snap when wind and rain are strong. If any such safety hazard comes to notice, immediately inform KSEB Control Room 1912 or District Disaster Management Authority Control Room on 1077. The public should not do repair work directly.

Those who go to work early in the morning, such as newspaper and milk distributors, should be especially careful. Efforts should be made to ensure that the power line does not break due to flooding of roads. If you suspect any danger, you should inform the control room and proceed only after making sure that there is no danger.

Those engaged in construction work should stop work and move to a safer place when the wind and rain are strong.
