KOCHI: In the backdrop of Kakki dam opening, water levels will likely rise up to 1.5 feet in Chengannur and Kuttanad, Minister Saji Cheriyan said. Caution should be exercised more in Kuttanad than in Chenngannur, he said.
The water level will rise at night. Efforts are progressing to move the locals to a secure position. The minister said that people in Pandanad and Thiruvanvandur should be cautious.
The Kakki Dam was opened following strong rains last day. The water will reach Chengannur and Kuttanad region by morning. The decision is to move all the people living in the banks. The operation for this is underway. The situation currently isn't worrisome, Cheriyan said.
The Kakki Dam was opened on Monday morning. Two shutters were raised up to 30 cm.
