IDUKKI: The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has crossed 138 feet. The water level presently is 138.05 feet. The water level reached 138 feet Thursday morning at 3 am. The inflow into the dam is 3,800 cubic feet per second (cusecs). Tamil Nadu is drawing 2300 cubic feet of water.

A second alert has been issued in the dam when the water level reached 138 feet. If the water level does not recede, the spillway shutters will open at 7 am tomorrow. Tamil Nadu has informed Kerala that the dam would be opened. Those on the banks of the Periyar will be shifted to relief camps today.

Water Resources Minister Roshy Augustine will visit Mullaperiyar today in the wake of the decision to open the dam. He said the state government is ready and preparations are complete.
