NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court said water level in the Mullaperiyar dam can be maintained up to 139.5 feet. The water level is allowed to maintain at 139.5 feet till November 10. The Supreme Court approved the direction of the supervisory committee. The court directed Kerala to reconsider the water level and submit an affidavit by November 8. The case will be considered again on November 11. A three-member bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar heard the argument.

The water level in the Mullaperiyar dam had crossed 138 feet this morning. The current water level is 138.05 feet. The water level reached 138 feet at 3 am today. 3800 cubic feet of water is flowing per second presently. Tamil Nadu is drawing 2300 cubic feet of water.

The supervisory committee had yesterday recommended in court that the maximum water level of the Mullaperiyar Dam, which was approved as per this month's rule curve, should not be changed to 138 feet. Although this was acceptable to Tamil Nadu, Kerala opposed and demanded that the maximum water level be fixed at 139 feet. With this, the Supreme Court observed that the safety of the dam was important.
