RCC in Kerala took birth when cancer treatment facilities were limited in Kerala, making it one of the most notable cancer treatment centres in the country. He passed away at the age of eighty-two. M. Krishnan Nair was the founder of this innovative venture. He has saved thousands from the scourge of cancer, one of the most feared diseases of mankind. The group includes children, celebrities, the infamous, political leaders and ordinary people. He went to London and returned after gaining expertise in cancer treatment at a time when cancer treatment was limited to medicine and light therapy here. Krishnan Nair was first seen as god-sent man by thousands at the Medical College Hospital and later at the RCC. He served as RCC Director for 22 years. The State will always remember with gratitude his contribution to the development of the RCC as a world-class institution from its inception.

Medicine has come a long way since the days when it was thought that there was no other way but to succumb to death once the cancer was confirmed. But at a time when there were no significant treatments or facilities, Dr. Krishnan Nair worked wonders in this field for a few years. Many patients come from different places from Kasargod to Kaliikavala and even from the neighboring state for RCC treatment and care.

He is one of the few doctors who considered health care to be the holiest human service. Krishnan Nair's name should also be written. His services were so dedicated and selfless. The economic impact of the disease on a family is enormous. In anticipation of this, Dr. Krishnan Nair launched an innovative treatment program called 'Cancer Care for Life', which cost just Rs 101 to enable any poor person to join.

Awareness campaigns initiated by the RCC to create cancer awareness have been a great success. Ninety percent of cancers can be cured if diagnosed early. With this possibility in mind, planned efforts for broader awareness are still underway. It has also had excellent results. Today, people are coming forward voluntarily to seek early detection and treatment of the disease. For the first time in the country, a community oncology department and a special unit for children were born in RCC. The idea of this belonged to Dr Krishnan Nair. He was the recipient of many awards, including the Padma Shri. Krishnan Nair will always be remembered as the savior of cancer patients. The RCC will be his eternal memorial.
