IDUKKI: More water is being discharged from the Mullaperiyar dam as the water level in the dam is nearing 139 ft. The shutters, which had been raised by 30 cm, were raised by 65 cm by 11 am. Water was discharged from the dam at the rate of 825 cubic feet per second. This will be doubled. With this, the water level in Periyar will rise.

A meeting of officials will be held at Thekkady Periyar House at 4 pm today to assess the situation in the dam. Though two shutters were raised by Friday evening and another one was raised by night, the water level did not drop significantly. Revenue Minister K Rajan is assessing the situation.
