IDUKKI: The Idukki district unit of DMK, party of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, demands construction of a new dam in Mullaperiyar. The district leadership said they would directly meet the chief minister and inform their stand and that the latter has permitted time to meet him. This is for the first time they are responding on the issue. DMK’s Idukki district secretary told the media that their stand is that a decision should be taken on the Mullaperiyar issue not harmful to both the states.

Idukki district leadership said they are putting forward their stand- water for Tamil Nadu and security for Kerala and hope the Tamil Nadu chief minister would consider their proposal. Meantime, Idukki unit of Tamil Nadu opposition AIADMK has not yet made their stand clear. Although both the parties have been working in Kerala for years, they have not been ready to take a public stand on the Mullaperiyar issue.
