KOZHIKODE: KPCC president K Sudhakaran MP on Sunday said that the Congress has weakened as a result of several members of Ezhava and Nair communities distancing themselves from the party. Speaking at a youth cadre meeting organized by the Youth Congress, Sudhakaran said that the last 15 years saw the biggest dropout in the party.
"The last 15 years have seen the biggest dropout in Congress. Several members left the party and joined the CPM and the BJP. Congress, which used to win all seats in Thiruvananthapuram, now has only one seat in the district. The party failed to come to power in the corporation as well. The problem is that people, who used to side with the Congress, have changed their minds," he said.
"The party has conducted three surveys in the state. A fourth one is in progress. Some people within the party are weakening it. They even write against AK Antony. 46% of places do not have booth committees. Yet, the party did not lag far behind CPM in terms of vote share because it has a place in the minds of the people. The Youth Congress was not able to act like how the DYFI intervened during the Covid crisis. They were able to present the government-sponsored kits in such a way that they were provided by Pinarayi Vijayan out of his own hand. Pinarayi's daily evening press conference gained acceptance among women," Sudhakaran added.
The KPCC president said that the party needs a change of style to win the hearts of the public. "Congress was not able to help the hungry. When DYFI and Yuva Morcha delivered food packets and medicines to those in hospitals, the Youth Congress was unable to expand such activities. Congress needs a change of style. One thousand cadres will be selected through the Youth Congress to teach the organizational structure," Sudhakaran said. Youth Congress state president Shafi Parambil MLA presided over the function. 304 people from Kasargod to Palakkad districts participated in the meet.
