PATHANAMTHITTA: From now on, class one student Hayaranziya has to go home and teach her mother Malayalam. Her mother, Mathar Beevi, a native of Shenkottai in Tamil Nadu, used to sit with her during the online class to learn the language. As her daughter started to go to school, Mathar Beevi had no other means to learn Malayalam. She has to wait for her daughter to return from school to learn the lessons taught in the school. Mathar Beevi, who only knows to read and write Tamil, enrolled her children in a Malayalam school to ensure that they do not come across any difficulties like the ones she suffered.

Her son Faris is an LKG student of Thaikavu Government Higher Secondary School, Pathanamthitta. Mathar Beevi has been living with her husband Noor Mohammad in Pathanamthitta for eight years.

During the online classes, Hayaranziya was not able to fully comprehend what the teachers were saying. She taught her lessons to her mother after asking questions to those around her and the teachers. Both the mother and daughter tried learning the language by singing Malayalam songs and writing Malayalam letters together.

Noor Mohammad often tried to teach his wife Malayalam but was unsuccessful. All three, except Mathar Beevi, know Malayalam.

It is her daughter who teaches Mathar Beevi how to pronounce and write Malayalam words. Noor Mohammad has been in Pathanamthitta for 22 years. He earns his living by selling vegetables. Mathar Beevi also earns a small income by sewing clothes at home.
