KOCHI: Anupama Chandran, who had filed a habeas corpus plea before the High Court in connection with the adoption controversy, has withdrawn the plea. The plea was withdrawn after the court refused to entertain the plea.
The Division Bench, which observed that the matter was pending before the family court, added that there was no need for it to interfere now. It ruled that Anupama's baby was not in illegal custody and that the Child Welfare Committee had the right to conduct a DNA test.
Meanwhile, the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court has granted anticipatory bail to the five accused in the case. Anupama's mother Smitha James, sister Anju, sister's husband Arun, father's friends Ramesh and Anil Kumar were granted bail.
