THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress will stage a Chakra Sthambana strike against the government for not giving relaxations in fuel tax. KPCC chief K Sudhakaran said they will stage a Chakra Sthambana Strike in the state on Monday. The strike will be staged in district headquarters from 11 am to 11.15 am.
Sudhakaran told media that the strike would be organized in a manner that would not cause any hardships to the people and had given strict instructions to the leaders and party workers. Sudhakaran said that it is the arrogance of the state government not to reduce taxes.
In the financial year of 2014, the central government's tax revenue from petroleum products was less than Rs 1 lakh crore. Revenue for the fiscal year 2020-21, when hit by Covid, was above Rs 3.7 lakh crore. Despite the increase, the central government did not reduce prices in a consistent manner.
What about our state? When the price of crude oil fell sharply in the international market, the people did not get any benefit from it. The centre decided to reduce the fuel tax following the nationwide protests by the Congress, he said.
