According to an affidavit filed in the High Court, the government is considering opening 175 new Bevco outlets to ease congestion at liquor outlets. But the government is reluctant to open new liquor stores for political reasons. The government should provide the opportunity to the customers for buying alcohol and return without queuing for hours. This is due to the fact that there is a tendency to underestimate the value of liquor in stores.

With the demand, 175 new outlets are not going to be enough. But that's not all. Multiplying this by the number of customers does not mean much. Steps can also be taken to set up more centres where customers can buy liquor without queuing. The High Court has been repeatedly asking the government for three years to put an end to the annoying sight in front of Bevco outlets.

It is only timely that the liquor outlets should be made accessible to the public as liquor ban has proven impractical. The liquor outlets of Bevco and Consumerfed operating in the state today can never be said to be consumer friendly. This is due to the large number of customers who arrive there. The only way to reduce congestion is to open more outlets. Bevco's application to the government seeking permission to open new centers should be decided and implemented as soon as possible. As most of the bars are located along the main road, the long queue of people coming to buy liquor and the congestion in front o the outlets is an annoying sight. The court is considering a contempt of court petition in this regard. In 2017, the court directed the government to provide facilities to reduce congestion in front of bars. Although the number of liquor buyers is very high, the number of liquor outlets is not commensurate with that. This is the reason for the huge crowd in front of every outlet. It is estimated that on an average, more than one lakh people come to a shop every day to buy liquor. Adjacent Tamil Nadu has 6320 liquor outlets while Kerala has 306. There are 8737 in Karnataka. Andhra Pradesh has 4380 and Telangana has 2200.
It is strange that liquor stores do not even need basic facilities when there is a requirement for bars to have superior facilities. This may be due to the contradiction in the approach itself.
