kurup

A grand reception was accorded to Dulquer Salman starrer 'Kurup'. The film is based on the life of notorious criminal Sukumara Kurup. There was a long queue in front of the theatres for the fan show of the film. Kurup is the first big budget movie to be released in Malayalam after the Covid crisis.

The film crew were a bit concerned on whether fans would go to the theatres to watch the film. However, the theatres were full in a small span of time after the booking started. Only 50 per cent were allowed entry to theatres adhering to Covid norms.

The theatre owners are overjoyed and excited about the screening of Kurup which was supposed to have an OTT release, in theatres. The film was released in theatres following the intervention of Mammootty.

Apart from Dulquer, the film directed by Sreenath Rajendran also has Shine Tom Chacko, Indirajith, Shobitha Dulipala, Maya Menon, Vijayaraghavan, Sunny Wayne, Saiju Kurup and many others.

Theatres were closed for months since the outbreak of Covid. Despite the opening of theatres, the release of most of the films in OTT had put the theatre owners in crisis.

When films including Mohanlal's Marakkar Arabikadalinte Simham was announced an OTT release, there were widespread protests from the side of theatre owners. Minister Saji Cheriyan had the other day informed that Marakkar would be released in theatres. A decision was taken after holding discussions with many including producer Antony Perumbavoor.
