KOZHIKODE: A woman SI has been suspended for filing a false sexual harassment case against her landlord after being told to vacate the house. SI K Sugunavalli, the sub-inspector of the Kozhikode Medical College Assistant Commissioner Office, has been suspended pending an investigation by City Police Commissioner AV George. Sugunavalli had not paid her rent dues for the last 8 months.

Sugunavalli had not paid her rent even after the landlord approached her several times seeking the rent dues. Later, the landlord asked her to vacate the house. He also lodged a complaint against her at the Panniyankara police station. Though Sugunavalli was summoned by the Panniyankara Station House Officer, she did not turn up. Later, she filed a sexual harassment complaint against the landlord's son-in-law. As per the complaint, the landlord's son-in-law grasped her hand and snatched her ring. Upon investigating the case, the complaint was found to be false. Later, the City Police Commissioner assigned Feroke Assistant Commissioner AM Siddique for further investigation.

The Assistant Commissioner's inquiry also found that the complaint was completely false. He had taken statements from nine people. There were many contradictions in Sugunavalli's statement. The report of the Assistant Commissioner stated that it was not acceptable for an official to abuse the law enacted for the protection of women.
