COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu police have arrested the principal of the Chinmaya Vidyalaya school in Coimbatore in connection with the suicide of a 17-year-old student. The principal was arrested from Bengaluru. Following the arrest, the protest organised by students and women's organisations came to an end.

The student committed suicide on November 11 after she was repeatedly sexually abused by her teacher. The child had named the teacher in her suicide note. Mithun Chakravarty, a teacher at Chinmaya Vidyalaya School, was arrested yesterday in connection with the incident.

Although the child had complained about the sexual abuse to the school authorities, the principal refused to take any action. It is learnt that the principal and the teacher's wife had tried to cover up the incident.
