SABARIMALA: Heavy rains lashed the pilgrimage route. The pilgrimage route was hit by landslides and flash floods along with torrential rains last evening. Pilgrims were stranded in Sannidhanam and forest route for hours as the Pampa River overflowed unexpectedly. The restriction, which was imposed on Sunday evening due to inclement weather, was lifted yesterday morning. It has been raining heavily in Sabarimala for the last four days. For the safety of the pilgrims, trekking was restricted from 7 pm to 1 am.
A landslide-like mudslide and flash floods occurred near Charalmedu on the Pampa-Sabarimala road at around 8 pm on Sunday. The pilgrims who climbed and descended the hill miraculously escaped. With this, the police stopped the pilgrims at various centers.
BSNL's OFC cable was cut and the tower was damaged in a landslide near Pampa KSRTC depot. With this, the telephone and internet systems in places including Sannidhanam were disrupted. The connection, which was lost at 8pm on Sunday, was restored at 1pm yesterday.
