THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Vegetable prices continue to soar in the state as the process of procuring vegetables from farmers' groups in Tenkasi in Tamil Nadu, is yet to be completed. Tomato prices crossed 100 yesterday too. The prices of other items also remain high. In the general market, the price of drumstick is Rs 240 per kg. Ladies' fingers-Rs 75, Carrot-Rs 94. With the onset of Sabarimala season, the demand for vegetables is high.

Officials from both the states had said last Wednesday that they would sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) as part of the decision to procure vegetables without mediators from six farmers' groups in Tenkashi district. But the talks with the farmers are not over yet. Horticorp officials hope to sign the MoU this week. As part of the market intervention, vegetables are being brought to the state from Tamil Nadu and Karnataka every day for sale. But the current market intervention is not working as the number of Horticorp stalls is limited.
