NEW DELHI: The country is paying tribute to Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and his wife, who died in a copter crash. The bodies of the two were brought to Brar Square Crematorium from his residence in a procession. The nation paid homage to the chief chanting Bharat Mata Ki Jai and Amar Rahe. Rawat spent most of his official career in New Delhi. There are many people in the capital who know him well.


The funeral services will begin at 4.45 pm. The bodies taken to his residence at Kamraj Marg in New Delhi this morning were kept there for nearly one and a half hours for the people to pay homage. Thousands thronged to his residence to have a last glimpse of the departed souls. Many broke down when the vehicle with the bodies was passing by. The people revealed their love by waving the tricolour and running along with the vehicle carrying the bodies.

A total of 800 service personnel will be in attendance for the military funeral of the CDS. The Chief of Defence Staff will be accorded a 17-gun salute as per laid down protocols.
