KANJIRAPPALLY: A mother has been arrested in the incident where a four-day-old baby was found dead inside her house. Nisha of Malurmala, who lives in a rented house in Idakkunnam Mukkali, was arrested after it became clear that the baby's death was a murder. Police said Nisha had confessed to drowning the baby.

Nisha initially told police that the baby had a high fever and had accidentally fallen into the water while dipping his foot in a bucket of water to reduce it. But the police became suspicious when Nisha's other children gave different statements. The children said the baby did not fall into the water by itself. The statement made by Nisha's husband was also different. Nisha, who was under observation at the hospital, was taken into custody and interrogated. She confessed to the crime after this.

Nisha also explained to the police the reason for hiding the information that she was pregnant from everyone. She gave the statement that she hid it out of shame that people poked fun at her for having five kids.

The newborn baby of Suresh and Nisha couple of Moothedath hill in Mukkali in Edakkunnam was found dead in the water of a bucket inside their house last Wednesday. The postmortem confirmed that the baby had drowned. The baby's body was buried at Muttambalam Public Cemetery. Police transferred Nisha's other children to various childcare centers.
