THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former DGP R Sreelekha has alleged that Shangumugham ACP shouted at her while she called him over the phone to lodge a complaint. In her Facebook post, Sreelekha stated that the ACP spoke rudely to her when she called the Shangumugham station seeking police help on the complaint of a housewife.

'Why is Police having such a bad reputation? I just had a horrible experience from AC Shanghumugham, Thiruvananthapuram. One woman Liji called me to seek my guidance on what she should do in her predicament. Ladies often do that when they are driven to the point of suicide.

She had faced horrible harassment from Valiyathura police station, Women's Cell and other police officers. According to her, the police threatened her to vacate her husband's house with her child. When I called AC Shangumugham, he shouted at me. He even refused to tell me his name. He said that I should support the police irrespective of their rudeness to the poor woman and not call officers like him with such unbelievable stories. Though I called ADG, Law and Order to inform him of his junior officer's attitude, he did not answer my call. I've sent him a message. Let's see what happens.

Poor Liji, I wonder if suicide is her only option after all! I believe the DGP called a meeting yesterday to instruct all police officers to be cordial to the public. If this is how an AC behaves to a retired DGP, imagine their behaviour to the common public? Who cares about DGP's instructions??' Sreelekha wrote.
