THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Food Minister GR Anil has said that the prices of 13 products sold through Supplyco have not been increased in the last six years. The minister said 35 items are being sold at lower prices than the general market and the prices of goods including beans, chillies and sugar have come down. The minister said the government had intervened and reduced the prices after noticing that Supplyco hiked prices of some items yesterday.

The prices of beans, mustard, coriander were reduced by Rs 4 each and cumin by Rs 14 each. Apart from this, the government has reduced Rs 8 for chillies and Rs 10 for dry chillies and green beans.

The minister said that the sale of subsidized items through Supplyco is 50 per cent lower than the market price and about 85 per cent of the products are being sold at subsidized rates. Supplyco had yesterday hiked prices for non-subsidized consumer goods. The government intervened and reduced the price amid protests.
