CHERPULASSERY: A woman committed suicide after hanging her two-and-a half-year-old son to a sari. The dead has been identified as Jayanathy (24), wife of Jyothish Kumar of Vellinezhi Kuttanasseri. The child is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Perinthalmanna.

After closing the doors, she hung her child to a sari. She was found hanging next to that. The child was saved by the timely intervention of a police official who rushed to the spot hearing some noise. When he got inside, he found the two hanging.

When he realized that the child is alive, he brought him down and gave first aid. The child was later rushed to a hospital in Perinthalmanna. Jyothish Kumar is a daily wage labourer. Jayanthi was staying with her son, husband and in-laws at her husband's house in Kuttanasseri. The reason to take the extreme step is not known.
