Conflict erupted in the Youth Congress activists' march to the Higher Education Minister R Bindu's official residence demanding resignation in connection with the row over the reappointment of Dr Gopinath Raveendran as the Vice-Chancellor of Kannur University. Police fired water cannon at protesters trying to overturn the barricade. There was a tussle between the police and the activists.

Meanwhile, even the cops were surprised when the ACP jumped into the protesters. When the ACP shouted 'come on, beat me...' at the activists, they calmed down a bit.
