18 MPs from Kerala will pay a courtesy call to Union Railway Minister Ashwani Vaishnav regarding K-Rail. This is not to achieve anything important for Kerala. Instead, it is to file a petition asking that K-Rail not be allowed. One would have wished that they had shown this zeal to sabotage the development of Kerala in other activities as well. It was reported that the Railways and the Centre would try to stop the K-Rail. There will be meeting in Delhi in this regard. The petition was also signed by the MP of Pondicherry, which includes Mahe, where the K-Rail crossing is to be held. But Congress Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha member Shashi Tharoor did not sign the petition. Shashi Tharoor has kept away resigned on the grounds that he needs to clarify a number of issues. This is one of the reasons why Tharoor did not say, "I have no role in this."
Most of the laughter will be for the people's representatives from Tamil Nadu when they see the MPs of Kerala lining up with a petition before the Center to sabotage a development activity that will affect the future of Kerala. They are one in development, whether in the ruling party or the opposition. They meet the Prime Minister and other Union Ministers only to ask for more development projects. They never miss an opportunity to criticize each other politically. But if there is a problem with a road, bridge or flyover related to development, they will come together. They will jointly take away what is eligible from the Centre. If K Rail had passed through Pondicherry too, surely the MP there would not have signed. For the people's representatives of Tamil Nadu, their homeland is paramount to them.
For our people's representatives, politics is more important than the development and progress of the country. One of the arguments against the project is that Kerala's debt will increase. Were they not in debt when they were in power?
