THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is on Omicron alert. Those in the contact list of the infected and having symptoms will be tested today. If they turn positive, their samples will be sent for genome sequencing. An alert will be strengthened in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam where the disease was confirmed. A central team will hold talks with the officials of the health department.

Omicron was confirmed on four in the state yesterday. It was confirmed on a person who returned from UK and reached Thiruvananthapuram and one from Congo who reached Ernakulam, wife and mother-in-law of the person who was confirmed of the disease earlier. With this the tally climbs to five.

A person who reached Chennai via Doha was also confirmed of the disease. A person who travelled with him and six of his relatives have tested positive. Their samples have been sent for genome sequencing.
