THRISSUR: Three have been taken into custody for abandoning the decomposed body of a new born baby in the canal. The baby’s mother, lover and friend were the three held. Her family said they did not know that she was pregnant.

The investigation revealed that the baby was drowned in a bucket. The body of the baby was found in a canal near Poonkunnam at 10 am yesterday.

The body was that of a three-day-old baby girl. The police had examined the CCTV footages of the area. The visuals of two men going in a vehicle were obtained. Following an investigation, it was found that Emmanuel and his friend from Thrissur were in the vehicle.

When further investigated, came to know that Emmanuel and Megha, a native of Thrissur, were in love. The accused confessed to the crime when questioned. The woman gave birth on Saturday. The new born was drowned in the bucket soon after the delivery to avoid from crying. The body was hidden under the bed for a whole day. Megha told police that it was handed over to Emmanuel the next day.
