KOCHI: An unidentified man attacked a housewife living in a rented house near the Maradu Gregorian School. The middle-aged man, who reached her house at around 2 pm on Monday, rang the doorbell. The housewife, who was alone opened the door. Seeing her, the man standing in front of her started hitting her with a wooden stick. The housewife, who tried to escape, entered the house and closed the door. She then informed her neighbour over the phone. The neighbour immediately informed Maradu Station and councillor D T Suresh, but by the time he arrived, the unidentified man had left the place.

As the police did not arrive even after half an hour, the councillor went to the station and enquired. Police said three were only three in the station as the others were undergoing training for the president's visit and also did not have a vehicle to reach the spot.

The Maradu police said that an investigation found him having some mental issues and a probe is on focusing his mobile phone.
