THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eight more people have tested positive for Omicron in Kerala today. With this, the state's tally has risen to 37.

Health Minister Veena George also said that the first Omicron case in the state has been discharged from the hospital.

While Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam reported 1 case each, Alappuzha, Thrissur and Ernakulam reported 2 Omicron cases each.

The newly infected persons are: (1) A 48-year-old foreigner who reached Thiruvananthapuram from Russia on December 22

(2) A 40-year-old man who reached Ernakulam from Namibia on December 16. He is a native of Kollam

(3) A 28-year-old woman who reached Ernakulam from Qatar on December 17. She is a native of Alappuzha.

(4) A 40-year-old man who reached Ernakulam from Qatar on December 11. He is a native of Alappuzha.

(5) A 3-year-old girl who reached Ernakulam from the UK on December 18

(6) A 25-year-old man who reached Ernakulam from UAE on December 18

(7) A 48-year-old man who reached Ernakulam from Kenya on December 13. He is a native of Thrissur

(8) A Thrissur native who contracted the disease through close contact.
