ERNAKULAM: A special team of police will probe the incident where migrant workers of Kitex attacked the police in Kizhakkambalam. A 19-member team led by Perumbavoor ASP Anuj Paliwal has been assigned to investigate. The investigation will be conducted by a team of two inspectors and seven sub-inspectors. So far, 156 people have been arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

Three police jeeps were wrecked by migrant workers of the Kitex Group in Kizhakkambalam around midnight yesterday. One of these was completely destroyed by fire. Five police officers, including Kunnathunadu CI Shahjahan, were seriously injured in the attack. The CIA sustained head injuries. The injured policemen were rushed to a nearby private hospital by locals. About 500 migrant workers were involved in the violence. The attack was under the influence of alcohol.

During the Christmas celebrations, there was a dispute between the workers and this led to clashes. When the police team reached the spot on information, the workers turned on them. Stones were pelted. Police officers were injured in between this.
