KOCHI: The police have found that Ripper Jayanandan is the accused in the double murder that happened at Ponekkara in Edappally 17 years ago. The crucial information was confirmed at the press meet convened by ADGP S Sreejith. The Ponekkara murder case in 2004 is an incident in which aged siblings were beaten to death and then robbed their 40 sovereigns. An aged woman and her brother were murdered that day. The two have been identified as V Nanikutty Ammal (73) and Rajan alias T V Narayana Iyer (60) of Ponekkara Kosheri Lane.
The accused Ripper Jayanandan is in custody. The witnesses in the case recognized seeing him in the area on the day of the incident. The police said the information provided by them also helped in the investigation of the case. ADGP S Sreejith said Jayanandan has confessed to the crime during interrogation and his arrest was recorded on December 24. Ripper Jayanandan, accused in seven murder and 14 theft cases, has been arrested after escaping from jail. He was sentenced to death in the Mala double murder case but the high court commuted it to life imprisonment.
