Police began actions against goons and anti-social elements recently only because there occurred violence in many parts of the state. In the last ten days, 7674 goons and anti-socials were nabbed. The hunt for goons that began as Operation Kaval is still going on. It has also been decided to form a new district task force under ADGP Manoj Abraham and strengthen the process. The mission was launched six months ago under the leadership of a senior police chief. Despite the existence of that task force, there has been widespread violence in recent days. Even in broad daylight, there were attacks and clashes between gangs. A new task force has been deployed in each district with the aim of preventing all forms of organized crime. Letting goons and anti-socials rule the roost is the failure of the rule of law. It is certainly not a matter of pride that we had to see a lot of violence before seeing some steps being initiated to suppress such people.
The drug mafia, which is ruining the younger generation, is gaining strength across the state. It is clear that such criminal groups are behind many of the organized violence. Drug trafficking has led to clashes between gangs and even murders. The biggest challenge facing the Police Task Force is from such groups. Today, there are many opportunities for quotation gangs to grow and thrive. The state has become a fertile ground for economic crime. The very existence of blade mafia and their institutions thrive in the shadow of such groups.
There is no point in taking action against goons only when widespread protests arose from the people. The intended result can only be achieved if it remains a consistent system. More than 7,600 people arrested in ten days and jailed for a few days alone do not necessarily clean up the scene. It can be said that the police action can be successful only when their criminal background was thoroughly examined and the punishment is meted out to them. Usually, after a few days, those who are caught in this way are released and can be seen going back to square with more energy. The police chief must be careful not to let Operation Kaval turn into a farce. The new task force has been given extensive missions. Missions should be able to nab those involved in all sorts of organized crime, including drug trafficking and sales, smuggling of gold, smuggling and quotation activities. Care must be taken not to let the innocent get caught in the attempt to suppress anti-socials and goons. Innocents should not be caught during vehicle inspections.
Of the 7,674 people arrested in the last 10 days, 5,413 were found to have criminal backgrounds. Doesn't this mean that they were roaming outside without falling into the trap of the law? It can be said that the indifference seen on the part of the police often helps these people. Anti-social forces can only be stopped if there is constant monitoring and follow-up. Therefore, those arrested should be brought to justice by filing a chargesheet according to the nature of the crime they have committed. If that doesn't happen, it's still a waste of time.
