THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government has intensified restrictions in the state in the wake of an increase in the number of Omicron cases. A maximum of 75 people will be allowed to attend functions such as weddings, funerals and other public functions in closed auditoriums. Meanwhile, 150 people will be allowed to attend functions and events in open spaces. The decision was taken at a Covid review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today. At the same time, the government also decided not to extend the night curfew in the state.

The meeting also decided to strengthen the screening of symptomatic people arriving at airports from various countries. Those who are yet to apply for Covid death-related ex-gratia assistance should apply immediately. The Chief Minister also directed the officials not to delay the disbursal of financial assistance to the applicants.

There has been an increase in Omicron cases in the state. At present, there are 181 Omicron cases in Kerala.

80 percent of the eligible population in the state have received two doses of the Covid vaccine. 15.43 lakh children are eligible for the vaccine. Two per cent of these children have received the vaccine. Authorities are taking necessary steps to vaccinate children.
