KOTTAYAM: The police are being lauded for their swift action in finding the one-day-old baby abducted from Kottayam Medical College. Aswathy of Vandiperiyar, the baby’s mother thanked the police for their quick act. Aswathy said that she did not suspect anything in the behaviour of Neethu who came as a nurse and abducted the baby. When the baby started crying, Neethu asked the baby’s mother to feed the baby. After feeding the baby and putting it to sleep, handed the baby over to Neethu. She then took the baby for a medical check-up. She came with a stethoscope and behaved like a normal nurse and so did not suspect her, said Aswathy.

Aswathy raised a suspicion when Neethu went downstairs with the baby instead of going to the second floor. Aswathy's mother immediately told the nurses about it and then went downstairs and informed the security guards. They never thought that they would get the baby back from a big city like Kottayam. When the police came to hand over the baby back to Aswathy, she got scared. The baby was wrapped in a violet colour towel. When Neethu kidnapped the baby from the hospital, the new born was wrapped in a different colour cloth. Aswathy was afraid that the baby brought might have changed. The baby was immediately shifted to the ICU.

There is a major security lapse in abducting the baby from the gynaecology ward of Kottayam Medical College where there are CCTV cameras and security guards. Neethu was seen in the hospital for the past three days in the ward of the hospital where there are strict restrictions. She had earlier posed as a doctor and the police had warned her then. The hospital superintendent has announced a probe on the incident.
