THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has issued an order appointing director, script-writer and actor Renjith as the chairman of Chalachitra Academy. Director Kamal who has been the chairman since 2016 has completed his term. He will take charge Friday morning.

The cabinet had earlier approved Renjith's appointment. Meantime, the cabinet had planned to make singer M G Sreekumar the chief of Sangeetha Nataka Academy.

However, the government backtracked after videos of M G Sreekumar participating in BJP's election campaign circulated on social media.
