KOCHI: Youth Congress activist Nikhil Paili, who has been arrested in connection with the murder of Idukki Engineering College student and SFI activist Dheeraj Rajendran has confessed that he was the one who stabbed him.
Meanwhile, four more people have been taken into police custody in connection with Dheeraj's murder. All four are engineering college students and KSU activists. They were taken into custody on suspicion of involvement in the attack. They are being questioned in detail. Apart from Nikhil, Youth Congress activist Jerin Jojo was also earlier remanded in police custody. He was apprehended by the police while fleeing after the incident. With this, the number of people arrested in the incident has increased to six.
Protests by SFI, DYFI and CPM activists in the wake of Dheeraj's assassination have escalated into conflicts across the state. Clashes broke out between Youth Congress and DYFI activists in several places. There were clashes in Malappuram, Pathanamthitta, Kollam, Kozhikode Perampura and Palakkad Ottapalam and attacks on party offices.
