KOLLAM: Managing editor of Sayahna Shabdam S Sugathan of Pallithottam Kaumudi Nagar Parameswar died here Friday. He was 74. He died at a private hospital early this morning at 3 am following cardiac arrest.

Apart from media, Sugathan was active in the commercial, social and cultural fields. He first ran a bicycle business Somson in Kollam along with his father. He later started Somson Advertising Company. The name of the company was later changed to 'Navajeevan'.

He was closely associated with the film industry when he was young. He had worked with Prem Nazir as production executive in many films. He had served as S N Trust director board member, was member of the Chamber of Commerce, secretary of Retail Merchants Association and patron of Kaumudi Nagar.

He leaves behind his wife Yashoda Devi. Late Saiju Sugathan and Divya Deepu (managing editor, Kerala Kaumudi) are his children. Kerala Kaumudi chief editor Deepu Ravi is his son-in-law.

His siblings are S Sumangala, Shylaja Ravi (director, Kerala Kaumudi), Vijayalekshmi and S Mohanan.
