THODUPUZHA: Like a pearl in a shell, Sruthi's miniature works of art can be described as a pearl in a bottle. Miniatures of thirteen musical instruments in a bottle measuring just four centimeters high and 1.9 centimeters in diameter were made by her-Guitar, violin, keyboard, tamburu, tabla, veena, drums, bass drum, normal drum, damaru, cymbal, flute, trumpet. She has got three records for her work.

Sruthi made her first miniature musical instrument in an empty insulin bottle of her mother. Now she is making miniatures in a bottle of Covid vaccine. Sruthi, wife of Dipin of Pampara in Thodupuzha's Karinkunnam, turned to bottle art during the first Covid lockdown. Attempts were made to make miniature shapes using toothpicks on clay, paper, thermocol and rubber in a one-centimeter-diameter bottle. Innovative forms were created through effort. After this, she decided to make musical instruments inside bottles. Her husband Dipin encouraged her to sent her work to the Indian Book of Records, which got recognized. She also holds records in Asia Book of Records and the International Book of Records.

Shruti posted pictures of the works on her Instagram page 'Unique Craft Studio'. Many people buy these as gifts for their loved ones after seeing the pictures. More than fifty miniatures have been prepared in bottles. Shruti is a Post Graduate Degree holder in Public Administration and is a trainer at ASAP. She is also preparing for the civil service exam. Her husband Dipin runs hotel business. They have two children- one and a half year old Shivada and three year old Daksha.

In the bottle

The opening of the insulin bottle is 0.7 mm wide. Once the artwork is fully made, it cannot be inserted. Once the artwork is large enough to fit inside, it is inserted into the bottle and the rest is made and glued together. It will also be reshaped inside the bottle. A tooth pick or needle will be used for this.
