THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: State Government's inspection found out that Tydol tablet sold in the state as a painkiller for Covid patients can cause intoxication in the veins and eventually death. Following this, the state government has decided to ask the Center to include this pill in the controlled drugs category. The tablets in this list can only be bought and sold as per doctor's prescription.
Tydol 50 mg and 100 mg tablets are used as painkillers, without doctor's advis or prescription. It is also sold as a sleeping pill in medical stores.It is a substitute for drugs if consumed in large quantities. Tydol pill is commonly used for severe chronic pain. Initially the intoxication spreads to the veins and gradually affects the nervous system. Then the patient will be on the verge of death.
Intoxication becomes more when the level of topendatol, a chemical, increases in the body. Side effects have been reported in regular Tydol pill users. The state government will soon send a letter to the central government in this regard.

Excise Minister, MV Govindan has said that it has been found that Tydol can cause shortness of breath, prolonged unconsciousness and even death. The government will take immediate action to control its use.
