THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala has imposed lockdown like restrictions for today, on account of the severe surge of Covid-19 in the state. Only essential services are permitted. Stores can function from 7 am to 9 pm. Long-distance train and bus services are allowed.
Those on emergency travels should carry a self-declared document stating the reason along with an ID card. They should give it to the police along with their mobile number, if asked for verification. Malls and theatres will remain closed. Village offices and treasuries will open for granting Covid funds.
Only a maximum of 20 people is allowed in weddings and funerals. Media organisations, medical shops and ambulances are allowed to function. People can travel for treatment and vaccination purposes. There will be strict inspection on roads.
A review meeting will be held tomorrow day for discussing about the Covid spread in the state. The meeting will decide on whether to continue Sunday restrictions. In the meantime, today marks the second year after the first Covid case was reported in the state. The virus was first reported on January 30, 2020, in a student from Wuhan. It had been the first case reported in India as well.
