KOTTAYAM: C J Elsy, native of Arpookara and assistant of M G University exam section, nabbed for accepting bribe from a student, will be produced in the vigilance court today. There are reports that she had accepted bribes earlier also. The vigilance has also decided to conducted a detailed investigation on it.
It has been hinted that Elsy’s appointment is also unlawful. She got the job without writing the written exams. She entered the job as a peon in 2010. It is learned that she was promoted before leaving the appointment to the PSC. It is also heard that she is an active activist of a left organisation.
The university is convening a syndicate meet tomorrow and will examine whether this is an isolated incident. The meet will inspect Elsy’s appointment documents. Syndicate member Reji Zacharia said action will be taken without looking politics.
She demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the student hailing from Pathanamthitta. She told the student that there is a possibility of her failing the exam, asked her not to worry, there is a way to win and ensured her pass the exam if given money.
Elsy demanded money from the student who was awaiting the results after writing the ‘mercy chance’, a last chance to win the MBA exam. The girl paid Rs 1.25 lakh to her account. When she demanded Rs 30,000 more, the girl lodged a complaint to vigilance SP V G Vinod Kumar. A team led by vigilance range DySP Vishwanath arrested Elsy when she was accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000.
