KOTTAYAM: Some decisive information has been obtained about C J Elsy of Arpukkara and assistant of M G University, who accepted bribe from a student to issue a certificate. Reports said a left organisation had intervened to appoint her. A private channel revealed the letter given to the vice-chancellor by the Left organisation.

She entered service as a peon. Her family are staunch loyalists of the LDF. She later passed the Class X equivalency examination of the Literacy Mission. She later passed plus two and the earned a degree from MG University. The vigilance will inquire about the degree earned while working.

The phone conversation between Elsy and the student (complainant) has surfaced. Indications are that the investigation team has received crucial information from this. The names of the officers to be paid are mentioned in the conversation. They will also be investigated. The University will convene a syndicate meeting today. Her appointment documents will be scrutinised at the meeting.

Elsy demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh from the MBA student from Pathanamthitta. Her promise was that there was a possibility of the student failing the exam and ensured pass if money is paid. The girl then paid Rs 1.25 lakh. The girl lodged a complaint with Vigilance SP V G Vinod Kumar after she demanded an additional Rs 30,000.
