THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Sharafuddin (34), a native of Puthuponnani, Malappuram, returned home from the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital yesterday with heartfelt gratitude. He was brought back to life from the brink of death by doctors and staff in the neurosurgery department.

He was rushed to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital on December 22 after sustaining serious head injuries in a road accident in Neendakara, Kollam. As he was unconscious, his identity was unknown. Doctors realized that life-saving surgery would be necessary. Necessary medicine and other supplies were arranged. After the emergency surgery, he was treated in the trauma care ICU of the super specialty unit with the help of a ventilator.

When the young man opened his eyes 21 days later, his whereabouts were revealed. An employee on duty called a relative of a police officer in Ponnani and identified Sharafuddin as a missing person. Relatives arrived and took him home.

Minister Veena George telephoned to congratulate the doctors and other staff who had provided expert treatment to Sharafuddin, despite being anonymous. Head of the Department of Neurosurgery, Dr. P.
