KOCHI: The High Court has said that the government cannot direct the implementation of the Justice Hema Commission report, appointed to study the atrocities against women acting in films. A division bench headed by the Chief Justice said that this was at the discretion of the government.
The Chief division bench considered a petition filed by Disha seeking implementation of the Justice Hema Commission report and to take action against those mentioned in the statements given by witnesses to the commission. The government has appointed 258 nodal officers at the district level to look into harassment complaints. State Attorney N Manoj Kumar, appearing for the government, said that committees had been set up in all 14 districts to look into complaints of sexual harassment against women in the workplace.
