MALAPPURAM: Calicut University has suspended two employees for accepting bribes from two students who came to correct mistake in their names in their graduation certificates.

Vice Chancellor MK Jayaraj has suspended Dr Sujith Kumar, Assistant Section Officer in BA Section of Pariksha Bhavan, and MK Mansoor Ali, a temporary employee and assistant, based on two complaints.

MK Mansoor Ali had demanded Rs 5,000 through Google Pay to a student from Malappuram who came to correct a mistake in her name in the graduation certificate. Mansoor Ali also promised to pay the application fee of Rs 1,350. However, without paying this fee, the employee cheated the student and the university by changing Rs 50 in challan to Rs 1350. After receiving a notice from the university that she had not paid enough fees, the student had lodged a complaint with the registrar on December 20, along with the evidence of Google pay transfer.

The Kozhikode resident complained that Dr. Sujith Kumar demanded a bribe of Rs.500. The fee for mistake correction in the name is Rs 1,105. Sujith Kumar paid five rupees out of this. Registrar EK Satheesh explained that the employee were suspended because it was illegal for employees to make such payments. There is currently no evidence available to prove that he took a bribe of Rs 500 from the student. The registrar said the matter was under investigation. According to Sujit Kumar, he paid Rs 5 as the complainant did not have it. The action was taken based on the report of the Pro Vice Chancellor.
